Future Fluent HR, AI Workforce Impact Dashboard. DNB (October 2026): 400 roles; graded Reported; the company names AI as the reason. Source: DNB. Reviewed Oct 9, 2026. https://dashboard.futurefluenthr.ai/case/dnb/
- Reduction
- About 400 full-time equivalents, the bank's own figure, in its Technology & Services unit, out of 10,646 FTEs across DNB at March 31, 2026 per the bank's website. DNB told E24 the unit has about 2,000 staff across several locations, without saying which countries the cuts fall in. The reduction is to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026
- Percentage given
- Not stated by DNB. About 400 FTEs against the 10,646 FTEs the bank reports at March 31, 2026 is about 3.8% of the group, and roughly a fifth of the 2,000-strong Technology & Services unit; both are arithmetic on the bank's figures, not rates it stated
- Share of workforce, worked out
- 3.8% of about 10,646 employees
- Jobs affected
- Engineering & product, Back office & adminClosest US occupation groups: Software Developers, Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Accountants and Auditors, Office Clerks, General
- HR function
- Technology & Services, DNB's technology and operations unit. The release names control of customer data, the Know Your Customer process, technology development and coding as the areas where AI agents are already producing efficiency gains, without saying how many of the 400 positions sit in each. No HR-function roles are named
- AI tool
- No system is named. DNB says it has adopted agentic AI in several parts of its operations and that the technology replaces tasks previously handled manually; it does not say which models, vendors or platforms
- The workflow
- Technology and operations roles, not HR roles. Included because DNB's own release gives agentic AI replacing manual tasks as the reason for the reduction, and its chief executive repeated the link in the same release
- Strategic pivot
- Not disclosed. DNB says it will adapt the unit's organisation and skills mix, run the process with employee representatives and offer a package of measures to those affected; it has not published retraining or redeployment plans for the people leaving
What happened
DNB announced in a stock exchange and press release on October 6, 2026 that it is restructuring its Technology & Services unit and reducing the workforce by about 400 full-time equivalents, to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026. The release says the group "has adopted agentic AI in several parts of its operations" and that "this technology replaces tasks that were previously handled manually and contributes to faster processes and increased capacity." It names control of customer data, the Know Your Customer process, technology development and coding as areas where "AI agents can contribute substantial efficiency gains," and says that to achieve those gains DNB "will adapt the organisation of T&S and its skills mix." Group chief executive Kjerstin Braathen is quoted in it: "AI is changing the way we work and how we deliver services to our customers. We are already seeing considerable gains, and are therefore adapting our organisation to a new reality." She added that the restructuring affects employees who have contributed strongly to DNB for many years and that the bank will carry out an orderly and responsible process. DNB says it will follow applicable rules and work in close dialogue with employee representatives; restructuring costs are to be recognised in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the full cost effect in the accounts from the second quarter of 2027, and the financial effects are to be disclosed later in the year. The bank declined E24's request for an interview. Elin Sandnes, its group executive for technology, wrote in an email that new technology and artificial intelligence make it possible to offer simpler, faster and better services, and that DNB, like other companies, must continuously adapt to technological development and customer needs. DNB told E24 the unit has about 2,000 staff in several locations and did not say which countries the cuts fall in, and said those affected would be offered a package of measures, which its press office confirmed means the same as a severance package. Arne Fredrik Haastein, deputy leader of the finance union Finansforbundet, told E24 that AI can bring large gains but warned against making AI a law of nature that automatically means fewer employees, and questioned whether the reduction can be done properly by the end of the year.
What HR should take from it
DNB is cutting about 400 full-time positions in its technology and operations unit and says, in its own stock exchange release, that AI agents now do work that people used to do by hand. That is the plainest form of attribution in this record, and it comes from Norway's largest bank, whose biggest shareholder is the Norwegian state, rather than from a software vendor. The release names where the agents are already producing gains: control of customer data, Know Your Customer checks, technology development and coding. It does not say how many of the 400 positions sit in each, which countries they are in, or which systems are doing the work, and the bank declined E24's request for an interview, answering by email that new technology and AI make simpler, faster and better services possible. Two details matter for anyone planning a similar move. First, the figure is full-time equivalents in one unit of about 2,000 staff, so the unit loses roughly a fifth of its capacity while the group loses under 4%, and the bank has not said whether the people leaving are the ones whose tasks the agents took over. Second, the timetable is short. The reduction was announced on October 6 and is to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the finance union Finansforbundet said it is hard to see how that can be done properly by the new year, warning against treating AI as a law of nature that automatically means fewer staff. DNB answers that it will follow the rules, work with employee representatives and offer a package of measures to those affected, which is the bank's term for a severance package. If you are asked to deliver an AI-attributed reduction on a quarter's notice, the Finansforbundet objection is the one to prepare for: a consultation that cannot finish in the time available turns an efficiency story into a process dispute, and the attribution to AI will not protect it.
Why this credibility tier
DNB's own stock exchange release of October 6, 2026 says agentic AI now replaces tasks previously handled manually and that the bank is cutting about 400 full-time equivalents to realise those gains, and chief executive Kjerstin Braathen repeats the link in the same release, so Inferred is ruled out. It stays below Verified because no AI system is named: DNB describes AI agents at work in customer data control, Know Your Customer checks and coding without saying which. The 400 is a full-time-equivalent figure for one unit, so quote it as positions rather than people and as DNB's figure, not a group-wide rate. Naming the systems would lift it.

How the company put it
Names AI as the reason
- Names AI as the reason
- One of several reasons
- Cutting to fund AI
- Mentions AI, no link
- Link only off the record
- Denies AI caused it
- Says nothing about AI
“AI is changing the way we work and how we deliver services to our customers. We are already seeing considerable gains, and are therefore adapting our organisation to a new reality.”
Highlighted: the words that tie AI to this cut.
The company or a named executive says AI drives or enables this cut. The tier says how solid the evidence is; this says how plainly the company itself tied AI to the cut. How this is coded
